Santa: The Ultimate Community Manager

Santa visits Community Manager Hangout

During our recent community manager hangout about reflections of 2012, Ally Greer tweeted that Santa is probably the most insightful community manager she has ever met. If you watched the hangout, you realize that Jim Ducharme was dressed up as Santa and Ally‘s reaction was in response to him. That being said, it got me thinking… is Santa the ultimate community manager?

A good community manager listens to the members of the community

Santa reads all those letters from children of what they want for Christmas

A good community manager empowers member of the community to self govern

Santa empowers parents and children to behave during the entire year

A good community manager always knows how to measure the community

Santa makes a list and checks it twice

A good community manager let’s everyone know they’re there without having to be seen

Santa leaves cookie crumbs.

A good community manager knows where to find their community

Santa makes stops at 108 million homes, in one day!

What do you think? Is Santa the ultimate community manager?

From all of us at My Community Manager, Happy Holidays!

Might be a little bit of a stretch. Nice timing and thematic  of the season of course. And I did  enjoy his surprise #cmgrhangout visit.  However, he is not an example that I would use to explain to my friends and family, who don't get this community manager thing. Do you have a 30-second pitch that you use to explain to your friends and family? Maybe we could aggregate some 30-second pitches somewhere/somehow. Just a suggestion. I would contribute.

@erich13 Of course it was due to the timing, but I stand by the points and comparisons I made. Do you not think they are right? Or are you more asking how to explain to family and friends. Love the 30 second pitch idea. Simply put to any one that asks me, "I'm a connector of people and ideas"

@tamcdonald Yes, you (@tamcdonald) point out some good qualities of a community manager. Which actually would make a good question for a #cmgrhangout - What are some good qualities of a community manager?
